| Customer Reviews: Exceptional sound quality May 28, 2009 Traveller (Cheshire, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been a club DJ for nearly 7 years and have been through a few pairs of headphones in my time. I have been using these headphones for nearly a year and so far no problems with use or build quality. Prior to these I had the Sennheiser HD-25's which provided great sound quality but poor sound insulation. This meant that I had to have the volume turned up higher in order to hear what I was mixing, against the backdrop of intense noise in a club. With the Beyerdynamic DJX-1, the earcups completely cover my ears thus providing better protection in noisy environments. The headphones also rest against your head which makes them very comfortable to wear over a long period of time (2 hours plus).
The sound quality is excellent and makes them great for casual use such as watching a film or connecting to an mp3 player. Connecting these up to the TV in order to watch a film is a must. Straight away you will notice additional sounds that you would not normally hear, unless you have a home cinema surround system. For that reason, they make the whole viewing experience much more enjoyable. The 3m lead is great for DJing, however you can buy extension leads from Amazon which are great when you want to plug these headphones into the TV, whilst relaxing on the sofa.
These headphones are not as commonly used as the Sony MDR-V700DJ, however the sound quality is easily better for a little extra cost. I have also owned the Pioneer HDJ - 1000 which are probably my favourite DJ headphones, unfortunately, these cans don't last long. The last pair I owned lasted for about 8 months before needing replacement, I would say that's an average time based on other reviews I've read.
When they first entered the market the DJX-1's retailed at around £150 thankfully they have come down in price. The specifications however, are their with other headphones in the £150 category and certainly outperform just about every headphone under £100. An additional important feature for Djing is the mono/stereo switch which you usually only find on top end headphones. The switch means that you can hear your mix in one ear whilst having the other earcup behind your other ear, so you can hear the mix coming through the master channel or club speakers. Most DJ headphones don't have this feature but if you want to mix like a pro it's a must.
Overall, if you are looking for a comfortable, great sounding pair of headphones that will last a long time then these are for you. For those entering the world of DJing, spend the £100 and get yourself a pair of DJX-1's, not only will they help protect you hearing in the long run, they will provide all the sound quality you need to mix at a bar/club. The build quality will save you money in time, as other cans notably fall apart under regular use. I'm giving the BeyerDynamics 9/10, after all nothings perfect.

These headphones are fantastic for the price. Comparable to some twice the price.
Frequency range is 5Hz-25kHz so you get the full sound of any track you throw at it.
Seriously, buy these.
