This headphones are great for monitoring as well as hi-fi listening.
Yes, they can sound a little too flat (which may be good for proffesinals) but play with your player's EQ and youre in for a treat. Sound is clear as cristal and the amount of bass you get is amazing. I used them with my PC, with an Asus Xonar DX soundcard. Cussions used to litterally rattle on my head on low frequencies.
These headphones are build like a tank, i cant believe the other review saying otherwise. Cable is very thick and it survived very well usual yanks and me going over it with the chair.
Also very comfy. You can use them for hours without even feeling them because they rest on the head leaving your years untouched. I used them on 12 hours playing sessins somethimes forgeting ther were on my head. They stayed in the SAME CONDITION for over a year before me selling them 'as mint' on ebay.
Great build and great sound, but I would look somewhere else in the price range for hi-fi use. Monitoring phones are a little too flat for home use.
A high quality product that suits my needs September 4, 2010 Andrew I needed a high-quality headphone for listening to music. In my flat, to hear detail would require the volume through loudspeakers too high - it would annoy the neighbours!
Also, I needed to be able to sometimes monitor recordings at my church, where the mixing desk is in the main building, hence the need for closed headphones to minimise the direct sounds of the singers.
Both requirements are well satisfied.
I would agree with others who say that headphones are not a direct replacement for good monitor speakers in a studio, but these beyers are certainly a high quality compromise. The detail heard is fantastic! I have found that I don't want to listen at a loud level; the perception of the detail somehow becomes a better substitute.
Also, the split stereo image that headphones give is not the ideal; above low frequencies, the image is unnaturally split. However, this is the case with all headphones. I once made a headphone amplifier that merges the higher frequencies progressively, and gave a more realistic stereo image.
I was apprehensive if the 80-ohm impedance would not give enough sensitivity, but in fact they seem more sensitive than my older 32-ohm open headphones! They work very well directly from the headphone output of my PC, without having to set the volume at maximum. They also give plenty of volume from my mp3 player.
There is a slight impression of "boxiness", but from what I have read, that is the case with all closed-back headphones.
pure pleasure July 19, 2010 Big Bear (southsea) just bought these headphones and mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmhhh!!
i am a headphone nerd (grado sr80, shure ec5, and many more in my collection). these headphones are really nice. if you are a basshead like me then they have amazing bass. the same impact as bose headphones, however not overpowering and have a lot more texture and definition. middles are fine although a little flat, highs are a little etched, but not to the point of eye twitching.
if you are using an ipod classic then they might be a little quiet if you like loudness. i like moderate volumes and the ipod classic is usually at 90% volume (5th generation ipod which have reportedly louder output may be fine volumewise). So if you like loudness then a headphone amplifier would be recommended. Out of my Macbook they are very loud. using a separate hifi amp (i have a few Yamaha surround amps and a dedicated old Sherwood stereo amp) then obviously the sound is louder and more defined. Basically the bass is more controlled, and using a 5o Watt per channel amp the volume never goes above 20%.
I am at work now in a busy open plan office and i am listening to Thom Yorke, The Erasor, un-amplified using an ipod classic at 80% volume, and i am very happy, the volume is fine and i cannot hear anyone else.

I have had these headphones for two months over 2 years. During this time it happened twice that they became faulty: One side became way too quiet. I always take care of my electrical goods so I can say with confidence that it was the product's fault. Obviously no visible damage.
(First it happened a month after I bought them, so the problem was fixed under warranty. The second time it happened 2 years later when the warranty had just expired.)
Don't be fooled by the good sound quality, their overall quality is cheap.
Two other minor problems: 1) The cable is too long and not practical, 2) after a while the thin covering layer of the middle part peels off.
Faulty product December 28, 2009 Mr. R. Gilford (Cornwall, UK) 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
I had 3 problems with this product. When they first arrived the European plug was included for the charger and had to be replaced with the British type. But then there was a buzz in the left hand channel and I sent it back to the manufacturers who agreed that there was a problem and replaced the headphones. However the replacement set had a faulty transmitter which kept cutting out. By this time I was so fed up with the headphones that I sent them back to Amazon for a full refund. Very disappointing and a very poorly made product.
