Your portable sound system never sounded so good August 27, 2003 Jedrzej Kostecki 31 out of 32 found this review helpful
I remember the first time I heard one of the Koss Porta series products. I bought them from a friend, along with a discman, about 7 years ago. Since that time I've been totally hooked. The SportaPro is the most budget oriented of the product line, which doesn't mean that it's not a top notch product. The sound is great and the bass is just amazing. You won't belive your ears, how such a small package gives such an incredible bass. One thing I've noticed with the headphones is that they give me great sound without blocking everyday, ambient sound. An excellent product all around, I recommend it to my friends all the time.
Thoroughly recommended!!! March 16, 2007 Sally_ (UK) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I have been using these headphones for years, and I thoroughly recommend them. The sound quality is excellent (for a budget headphone), and you can turn the volume up considerably before people nearby can hear even the tinniest sound - so great for use on public transport! These headphones fold down well, and come with a nice leather pouch to store them in.
Most importantly, however, is that these Koss Sporta Pro headphones come with a lifetime guarantee which, I know from experience, the manufacturs do actually honour. My own headphones showed signs of wear-and-tear after three years of use (the foam around the earpieces was coming off, and the cord was beginning to break away from the socket), so I contacted Koss. They told me to post them to their UK-based repairs workshop, which I did do, and I got my headphones back repaired within a few weeks; I was only required to pay postage.
So, I thoroughly recommend these headphones.
Poor mans igrado and wipes the floor with px100 November 11, 2008 Nomessingabout (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For the price these have to get 5 stars I think. The sound quality is very very good indeed - not far off that of the legendary Portapro, and is certainly HUGELY improved on the sennheiser px100. good bass and all round sound. They can become uncomfortable if you do not position them correctly - towards the bottom of your ear solves that problem and they are nice and light barely know you are wearing them. The folding mechanism could do with being strengthened up a couple of notches please Koss! They are A LOT uglier than they look in the picture but it doesnt stop me using them in public whatsoever. They are absolutely perfect for jogging, sprinting, weight lifting etc and along with the igrado are exactly what us exercise fanatics who get fed up with useless in ear headphones falling out, these are a joy to use.
In summary the sound quality here is 5 times better than the similiarly priced px100(granted they look better but who's looking and vanity is pointless anyway) and about 2 times worse than igrado, but then they are twice the price. As usual Koss fill gaps in the market with overall good quality products that satisfy customers needs rather than disappointing them like sennheiser does. And as ever, their functional design is superb but they still need to get some new stylists!
Astonishing sound for minimal money.. January 3, 2010 Robert Howcroft (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got these a couple of months ago having been through various sets of headphones/earphones to use with my MP3 player when on the train. Not being able to get on with the inner ear kind, I read existing reviews of the SportaPro's (and many others) before eventually paying out my money.
From the first moment of listening to them, I knew my money was very well spent and the sound is simply fantastic for a pair of headphones at this price range. I mostly listen to metal - thrash and death varieties - where pounding bass and drums are essential - and these do not disappoint. In fact, I also have a pretty decent pair of big Sony's - MDR V700's costing nearly £80 - and it's now a toss up between those and the Koss'es when I listen to music at home. Of course, a pair of headphones is often only as good as the music players they're plugged into but these will improve the sound of most devices rather than using their usually poor bundled earphones. I've recently upgraded my old Creative Zen Micro to a high quality Creative Zen X-Fi and combined with the Koss headphones, my music now sounds the best I've ever heard it. Although they look fairly cheap, they're actually quite robust and don't mind being bent slightly out of shape when in my backpack: once freed, they simply pop back into shape again.
If I do have any criticisms, there are just two minor ones: one, that they're pretty unusable in neckband mode due to the steel band "not feeling quite right" around the back of my head and secondly, that there should be small foam padding on the plastic slides that sit on top of your scalp during "over the head" mode.
Overall, you're unlikely to get better for this price, nor for an extra twenty quid and they fully deserve the five stars I'm giving to them.
Light weight with good sound - great for workouts. July 15, 2009 World traveller (London, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased these after doing research on headphones suitable for sports and workouts, particulary running. My ear buds were not suitable for long runs as they would often shift in my ear and eventually fall out. This became especially bad as soon as I started sweating. I wanted headphones that would stay in place and were lightweight, and with decent sound.
After doing 2, one hour long runs with these, I can happily give them top marks. They can be worn with the strap behind your head, or on top of your head, with equal comfort. This is because they are very light, and because the strap exerts some pressure to keep the ear pads on your ears. They stayed in place throughout the runs (thread the cable through the neck of your shirt and you won't even notice it is there!). Even though the foam pads do get wet once you start sweating, you really don't notice is as you are obviously wet first. They dry out quickly and seem to be holding up fine.
As I am using these exclusively for sport, I was not looking for the best sounding headphones. That being said, these absolutely kill the sound out of the ipod ear buds I was using previously. The difference in the bass is significant, so you will have much better sound quality with these than standard ear buds. Are there better sounding headphones out there? Probably. But these do sound really good even if just chilling out listening to music at home.
Finally, throw in the carrying case, the Koss lifetime guarantee (which I hope to never use, but have heard rave reviews about), and the low price, and you have a 5 star product!
