Great Value, Great Product October 24, 2008 Mr. A. P. Cox (Derby, UK) 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
While I appreciate the comments others have made here, I have to say that for my purposes I think this is a fantastic product. I am using a 29" rear projection Toshiba widescreen TV.
The Cyclone was very easy to set up. I found the best way forward was to set up folders reflecting the Amazon main DVD genres and just dropped all my AVI files in them.
Before buying the Cyclone, I had been toying with the idea of Apple TV. I was initially taken with the idea of streaming my videos around the network, but the more I thought about Apple TV the less I liked the idea of having to run computer kit to serve the files, when I actually just wanted to watch TV.
The Cyclone unit has 1TB of space, whereas Apple TV has at most 160GB (and is twice the price) and it was this that finally made up my mind for me.
This unit is small and light and allows me to move my movies around the house with a great deal of ease (and I am quite unsteady on my feet). At the end of the day, it really is no hassle to unplug the mains and the RCA cable and reconnect them to another TV. It also means I can take my movies with me when traveling.
Minor gripes (very minor) The remote is simple to operate but I found the layout of the scan and skip buttons to be a bit odd. Not as natural as I would like, but thats a personal thing. I would have put these next to each other, rather than above each other.
The only other thing is that the menu, though dead easy to use, is a little cumbersome. It shows 8 titles onscreen at a time. My problem is that if for example, I choose a genre and in there I have say 6 pages of titles and I have been viewing a title on page 4, there is no obvious quick way to go back out of the genre. I seem to have to scroll through to page 1 and find the "Up Directory" Icon to get out. There is a Main Menu button, but having gone back there, if I choose Movies I end up back at the same title again.
These are very minor in my opinion and the overall performance vastly compensates for this. The menu problem is something that could be sorted via a Firmware update.
All in all Superb value. Really pleased I chose it.
Does what it says on the tin. September 7, 2009 Ms. Helena Tansey 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very pleased with this product. It was bought as a birthday present for me and it does exactly what it says on the tin. It's ideal for storage, i.e. Movies, music, pictures, software. Great for backing up my PC. Plays most types of movie files, ideal if your pc is not hooked up to your tv. No comlaints with this product at all. If your looking for something to back up your computer files, watch movies and listen to music through your tv this has it all.
Envizage 1000GB 1TB Cyclone External Hard Drive Multi media Player July 9, 2009 Mr. K. Mckeown Great product and a great price. Could be better in slide show mode though as it is a wee bit sluggish. Other than that, works very well.
Good value May 29, 2009 Dominic Bascombe (Essex, England) nice piece of kit- very useful- beats burning to dvd then using a dvd player!
Great value for money and good decoder December 3, 2008 M. Lundberg (UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
To be honest, and after reading the reviews, I wasn't sure about buying this media player. However, I ended up buying 2 of them as xmas gifts.
One of them was faulty but it was swapped with a new one quickly and dealt with professionally.
The decoder (chip that plays the vids) is great as it plays everything(It played all my divx and xvid). Unlike other players where I struggled and had to re encode some avi file to watch or to simply Fast Forward. The unit doesn't stuck and it plays files over 1GB of size.
The bad thing about the player is the Fast Forward functions as it goes X4 max and the remote doesn't match the unit and it feels a bit cheap.
Bottom line, the product is good and after receiving good service via email I would defiantly recommend buying it. The tech guys from the company where replying to emails quickly, even on a sunday afternoon, which was great and reassuring.
