Great Netbook - Recommended February 27, 2010 Bobbo (Europe) 139 out of 140 found this review helpful
Nice little netbook, this is the same review I posted for the N220. a few differences:
N220, 2.1 speakers, the sound is defintely better than 210 with the extra mini woofer on the bass. Doesnt sound tinny.
N220, slightly different styling to the N210, hexagon pattern on the lid and a chrome rim. N210 reminds me of the white Nintendo DS lite.
N220, dark glossy lid is a fingerprint grease magnet.
As for the N200 series, key points:
Good Keyboard
Fantastic chiclet keyboard. I love it, nice and clicky tactile response and zero flex. Feels very solid, probably the best laptop keyboard I have ever used. Feels better than the keyboard on my MacBook Pro. Only criticism I have for the UK version is the shortened right hand shift key, I end up hitting the \ key a lot. Good touchpad too, with multitouch.
Battery life
Not quite the 12 hours promised but from light internet surfing at 1-3 bars screen brightness it's quite easy to manage 7-8 hours wifi on. Incredible. If you use the netbook at minimal brightness without wifi, it can easily go 9 hours or more.
Nice design
Stylish acrylic shell with textured pattern underneath, personally I prefer the white N210 as fingerprints dont show on the lid as easily.
Bloatware
On starting up the netbook for the first time it installs a ton of useless software and bloatware which takes ages. Then I have to remove it all which also takes ages. The instant on hyperspace feature is useless and is just a basic os and web browser, no skype or other programs we might use on a netbook. Booting into win7 is really quick anyway. I advise removing the bloatware McAfee antivirus, hyperspace, MS office trial and all the game demos. Also, comes with failsafe which has one of the most annoying installers and insists on popups every time you start up the PC, so you have to install it to stop these darn popups coming up. Anyway, with a bit of time and patience you can get rid of all this junk and make Win 7 lean and efficient.
Win7 Starter
Or Win7 Lite as I like to call it, a lot of people dont like it but i think it does the job fine. Don't need DVD playback on a netbook which doesnt have a DVD drive. Can live without Aero on this. Dont need media centre either, my media pc does a better job of that. Yes the wallpaper is changeable with some free third party wallpaper changers. Otherwise, win7 lite is fast, smooth and stable. The win7 Home premium anytime upgrade is unneccesary IMHO and not worth the £50 MS are asking for it. Save your money and get RAM instead....
So, DO get a 2gb RAM upgrade, the difference is immediately noticeable. Programs load and switch faster and more smoothly. I did not enjoy using this with the standard 1GB.
Noise
Virtually silent. The fan is hard to hear even in a silent room.
Screen
Clear, very bright, very energy efficient and doesnt eat up tons of battery even on full brightness. Resolution is so so, at only 600px vertical resolution there is a lot of scrolling to do, but its fine for basic internet usage.
CPU power
Even runs photoshop at an acceptable speed. This isn't an HD video media machine however, get a proper laptop if thats important.
Summary
This is my first netbook, and it has fulfilled my primary needs for long battery life and good useability for internet surfing on the move. It is also very light to carry around compared to a standard laptop and doesnt weigh you down. Win7 does the job and lets me run firefox, a few productivity applications and will play ripped music and movies without any problems. Keyboard is fantastic.
Day's of searching over! March 22, 2010 M. E. Taylor (Wolverhampton, West Midlands, UK) 47 out of 47 found this review helpful
This is my first ever review, this despite buying lots of items from Amazon over the years.
I (like most of you I should think?) spent days; and I mean days - trawling through page after page of reviews online. I went through all the online reviews from magazines and internet review sites, I even watched hundreds of videos on YouTube and I still couldn't make up my mind.
I ahve to admit on being a bit of a snob when it comes to my purchases, I like to think I have bought the best I can afford - this makes me happy.
The Samsung n210 fills this requirement perfectly.
I wanted a netbook that I could take into the classroom with me and use for registers, powerpoints, media and the like wihtout having to cart a great big laptop around with me all day - including chargers. The N210 nails this with ease, I have had it for a week now and have had no problems whatsoever.
I went for this because I wanted good build quality and it has it in spades. I like the look of the various seashells and the like but they feel and look (in my opinion) cheap. I need this to last and I have no doubt that it will.
The body is well made and well thought out, the usb ports are wherre they neede to be, the vga is on the wrong side for me but its not a problem and I have found the multi card reader works just fine. I havent had to use the power adapter yet as the battery just keeps on going but I don't have it on all day, couple of hours a day four days a week plus a little internet at home.
the keyboard is fantastic and you can type on it wihtout fuss, I was worried about the screen but I needn't have, I have even turned the brightness right down and the effect this haas on the batery is massive, I didn't do this for battery saving reasons - I just have sensitive eyes and I don't like a bright screen. You can do this form the keyboard without having to go into menus.
The screen itself opens up plenty far enough for lap usage so again no problems there. Themachine is deadly quiet, the fan works well but I cant hear it - and my hearing is super.
I purchased the 800mhz memory upgrade from Amazon at the same time of purchase, the 2gb upgrade handles everything I have thrown at it and I would deffo recommend. It was a pinch of salt to insert - literally a 30sec job although you will need a glasses screwdriver - its small.
I am a very tough buyer who knows what he wants and spends ages looking for it, I am glad to say I have found it and am a very happy bunny!!!!
Only one negative and thats the start up time of the machine the first time you turn it on out of the box, it took 45 minutes to install all the bloatware, then it took me another 45 minutes to remove it all. Apart from that - ITS AWESOME!
Matt - hope this helps you choose this machine!
Everything I could have hoped for February 10, 2010 Stansted Pete (Essex, England) 43 out of 43 found this review helpful
I took a chance and bought this netbook on the basis of a brief video review from the Consumer Electronics Show - and I'm delighted to say that so far it has met or exceeded my expectations. It's certainly a big improvement on my Eee PC901.
The keyboard is wonderful - everything is where I expect it to be, and only a light touch is needed. The touchpad is better than most (though I prefer a mini-mouse anyway), and the display is very bright - indeed I found it far too bright for my liking, and was delighted to discover that when I reduced the brightness it made a big difference to battery life. I haven't yet managed 12 hours battery life, but 8 hours is easily achievable, and I reckon I'll be getting 10 hours soon. A printed manual would have been nice, but hey, think of all the trees that have been saved.
I had been considering the Samsung N140, but I'm glad the N210 came along before I committed. Highly recommended!
Amazing little netbook - VERY happy May 26, 2010 barquette de fraises 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this mini netbook after reading lots of reviews and hesitating between several brands for ages. I'm very happy with my choice and I'm glad I did not choose another netbook.
The netbook is much quicker than my previous laptop and the battery life is just amazing. I get nearly 10 hours if I do not use the Internet which is great to go to uni for a whole day of classes or studying. I guess it's more like 8 hours if I use the Internet, which is still very good. I had considered buying netbooks with a 3-cell battery because they were a fancy colour but I'm glad I didn't! Anyway the n210 looks a bit like a mini-macbook. It comes with a great black case.
Windows 7 is very good and really more user-friendly, I don't really mind not being able to change the wallpaper - with a netbook you usually have a window open which takes up the whole of the screen anyway.
The only thing which annoyed me a bit at the start was that the Shift key on the right is a bit smaller and they've added a backslash key (not very useful), causing lots of typos at first but I quickly got to it. And I also had to uninstall useless bloatware on the first day, but that's the case with all netbooks I suppose.
Overall I'm very happy with it and I'm taking it everywhere!
Lovely little product! August 29, 2010 Countrydweller (UK) There are lots of excellent reviews here already, but I didn't read the one that said THERE IS A CASE PROVIDED WITH THIS NETBOOK, and I bought another one. Waste of money. Very pleased with the machine though, and thanks to all the reviewers who helped me choose it.
